The Bourne Again Shell's history mechanism, a feature adapted from the C Shell, maintains a list of recently issued command lines, also called events, providing a quick way to reexecute any of the events in the list. This mechanism also enables you to execute variations of previous commands and to reuse arguments from them. You can replicate complicated commands and arguments that you used earlier in this login session or in a previous one and enter a series of commands that differ from one another in minor ways. The history list also serves as a record of what you have done. It can prove helpful when you have made a mistake and are not sure what you did, or when you want to keep a record of a procedure that involved a series of commands.

luny has reported a vulnerability in PHP/MySQL Classifieds Script, which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct script insertion attacks. Input passed to the "Title", "URL" and "Description" form field parameters in AddAsset1.php is not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be executed in a user's browser session in context of an affected site when malicious data is viewed.

Red Hat Revenue Continues to Increase

Strong Linux sales drove Red Hat revenue up 38 percent in its fiscal 2007 first quarter, the company announced Wednesday. Red Hat reported revenue of US$84 million for the quarter. Subscriptions were up 45 percent from the previous year’s quarter to $71.5 million.

Network vendors promote Linux for carrier networks

The SCOPE Alliance, a grouping of major telecoms networking equipment vendors, has published a profile for a carrier-grade Linux operating system. The profile builds on the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) carrier-grade Linux requirements definition version 3.2 (CGL 3.2). It describes a subset of the mandatory CGL 3.2 features and prioritises the CGL 3.2 'roadmap' items that SCOPE deems necessary to support carrier-grade base platforms for network equipment providers.
