Ibm To Release Linux Notes Sooner Than Promised

A Notes client for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 will be available on July 24, with a version for Novell SUSE Linux Desktop for Enterprise 10 version due within 90 after that, IBM said.

Firefox 2.0 beta release candidate available

The beta release of Firefox 2.0 is not due until July 11, but a release candidate is currently available for download by curious (and careful) testers, PCMag.com reports. Key new features being introduced in the beta reportedly include an integrated spell checker and an anti-phishing tool.

Enterprisedb Launches Financial Support Program For PostgreSQL ...

EnterpriseDB, an open source database company, announced that it is establishing a fund to sponsor further development of PostgreSQL. The company will launch the fund at PostgreSQL Anniversary Summit in Toronto with an initial contribution of $25,000. The fund will be used at the discretion of the PostgreSQL leadership team to sponsor development of PostgreSQL features and enhancements. The company also announced that noted PostgreSQL developer and best-selling author Korry Douglas has joined EnterpriseDB and that EnterpriseDB's Bruce Momjian will deliver the Anniversary Summit's keynote address.

You may remember a brief frisson when Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive, announced that the company was switching from IBM processors and would put Intel processors in Apple Macs. Some devotees regarded this as akin to a religious betrayal; more detached folk regarded it as inevitable. IBM had refused to develop the PowerPC processor line any further and it would have been nuts for Apple to go into the chip business. That left only Intel. QED.

I was lucky enough to be Documentum's first employee in Europe in 1993. While there, I worked closely with Geoffrey Moore and got "religion" about understanding not just the so-called "chasm" but the whole marketing model and its implications for strategy, marketing, product, and operational behaviour.
