Microsoft sued over flaw
SEOUL - A South Korean lawyer on Monday sued Microsoft Corp, the world's largest software maker, for allegedly hiding a software flaw.
Jang Young-ha, 47, filed the lawsuit against Microsoft with the Suwon District Court on charges of deception, accusing the US software giant of selling the flawed program for use in handheld electronic devices. In June, Jang bought Microsoft's Windows Small Business Server program and two servers for a total of 6 million won (US$5,802), according to the court statement.
When Jang downloaded personal data such as customers' birthdays and his schedules from the servers to his personal digital assistant, he found that the downloaded dates were always one day ahead of the original ones.

Open Source Software Will Permeate Enterprise Software, Says The ...
The 451 Group believes that enterprise software vendors can no longer afford to ignore open source. In a special report, the IT industry analysts evaluate open source software as a powerful force of change with both upside and downside potential. As the lines between open and proprietary blur, licensing models will increasingly contain hybrid approaches to code ownership and permitted use. The end result: nearly every piece of enterprise software will eventually contain open source elements.
The analysts say that In the worst-case scenario, open source can do severe damage -- to licensing schemes and to legal definitions of intellectual property -- if used improperly. The potential benefits, however, are also massive -- making it important to clearly understand the critical path to finding upside in the commercial adoption of open source.

Opinion: Software stacks, open or closed, will always be dogged by backward-compatibility issues. Deal with it.

The Firefox Hacks You Must Have
With the release of the new version 1.5 of Firefox, there's never been a better time to download the open-source browser, take it for a drive, kick the tires and see what it can do. In the case of a browser, mainly what it can do is show you web pages, hopefully quickly. Linux Shortcuts and Commands:
This is a practical selection of the commands we use most often. Press to see the listing of all available command (on your PATH). On my small home system, it says there are 2595 executables on my PATH. Many of these "commands" can be accessed from your favourite GUI front-end (probably KDE or Gnome) by clicking on the right menu or button. They can all be run from the command line. Programs that require GUI have to be run from a terminal opened under a GUI.
