I have started a journey of sorts as I have stated not too long ago. I decided to try multiple distributions in order to see what features were good, what ones were not, and if an all star distribution were to be made, which features would, in my view, make the cut. The first part of what is going to sound disturbing to a few at first, because of the issue of “selling out.” However, allow me to explain.

am working on LiGNU, which is PCLinuxOS with a face lift. It is an experiment of sorts, and I hope I do a good job on it. This may even be a good way to spring into tutorials on how to customize certain aspects of any distribution. The system itself will have menus that are reorganized to where a user migrating from Windows-based technology can better navigate it. In addition, important desktop shortcuts may be added. So here is where you come in.

There is an individual who goes by the name Bogdan. He has created one of the most interesting *nix distributions out there. They call it.... NimbleX!

FOSS blogging can be quite fun. Sharing the excitement of having tested another distribution of *nix (or sharing disappointment of wasting said time… depends on the experience) or sharing an opinion on the happenings of FOSS today can be an interesting experience to say the least. However, blogging is not always without peril.

Many of those who utilize free and open source software read related news sites and blogs pertaining to events, news, opinions, and more. As of late, I have become slightly disappointed to say the least.

My apologies for the rough title. However, if you have read about James Burgett and how the EPA is trying to prevent him from recycling older computers to give to the needy, then it is my hope you will understand. Kudos to ZaReason for raising awareness of this.

In this blog post, i have a few minor updates along with one important message: I draw a parallel in an unexpected place to prove the point I'm raising concerning the promotion of Free and Open Source Software. We need numbers and we need to take action now. The time for debating the most effective methods is over. The overall message is simple: Just do something already.

My friend Dan Marshall once told me, "Evil will screw you over. Stupid will screw everybody over." In the name of "national security" in America, it is quite possible that Linux and FOSS could become illegal if Microsoft were to have its way...

There are people who are doing their best to come up with ideas for the promotion of FOSS. I have come up with an idea, and plan on putting it in action tomorrow. I have a simple question: Will you join me?

I think what Red Hat has done in making alternative operating systems more visible (Linux becoming a household name) is wonderful. However, with the potential of new talks with Microsoft, I have an urgent warning for them: don't do it. Please, don't talk to them. They don't care about their customers nor third party developers.

It took me over a decade to figure out that I wanted to promote Free and Open Source Software. I have one person to thank for getting the gears rolling, and inspiring me to be what I want to be and nothing else that I didn't want to be. Thank you Dad, and Happy Father's Day.

You know things are bad when a company's products are not up to snuff. You know it's ugly when said company is threatening a lawsuit pertaining to software patents and so-called intellectual property. You know it's really screwed up when a Visual Studio developer is threatened with a lawsuit. Mr. Weber, how in the world do you sleep at night?

He is considered a maverick where he works. Despite the environment being a Microsoft shop, he still manages to run Free and Open Source Software. After being inspired by Richard Stallman's message of Free Software in which people can modify it freely and compiling his own Linux kernel, he discovered for himself that he was free at last. He states that GNU and Linux are superior to Microsoft Windows, Office, and Internet Explorer. Here's where the irony comes into play: In the mid 1990's, he worked for Microsoft.

In my last blog post, I mentioned a piece of the Hacker Ethic. Were it not for said code of ethics, the Free and Open Source Software movements would not be where they are today... Let's take a look at the Hacker Ethic.

Are we seeking "love" in all the wrong places? I don't think so. I think everyone deserves a chance to take a look at Free and Open Source Software. Before moving on from TUX500, I am asking everyone here and other places to do one thing: don't ever forget where it all came from!

It truly is fascinating when you read about an accusation of anybody being a thief and a scam artist. An individual blogger who calls himself Penguin Pete believes that the TUX500 Project is a scam. This rhetoric unfortunately borders not only on the absurd, but crosses the line into libel territory.

When somebody tries to do something to promote Free and Open Source Software, one of three things happen. It is either ignored, moderately to fully supported, or outright opposed. Those who oppose it are often not developers and they are merely using FOSS, to which I pose the question: What have you done lately?

A nice lady has seen what the TUX500 Project is all about and she loved what she saw. She also remembers being asked for help from the Mozilla Community when the evangelizing of Firefox. This is what she has to say to them now....
