Open Sourcing Infoware with Distributed XML

Tim O'Reilly has spoken often over the last year about how to apply the ideals of open source with the slow and eventual shift from dependence on software to dependence on information. The new software is 'infoware'. In Applying Distributed XML toward The Open Source Paradigm Shift to Infoware, I propose that we can preserve the freedoms to innovate with data and to fork infoware by working with locally hosted xml files like we do with RSS.

XPde 0.5.1 Released - Screenshots (XP Linux Desktop)

XPde is a Linux desktop that looks so frighteningly close to Windows XP I didn't recognize it as other than XP itself. From the XPde website: "It's a complete desktop environment for Linux on x86. It tries to make easier for Windows XP users to use a Linux box. Nothing more, no clipboard compatibility between Gtk and Qt applications, no emulation of Windows applications, no unification on the widgets of X applications, just a desktop environment." Well, you just have to see it to believe it. Here come the screenshots.

KDE 3.3: A Milestone for Linux on the Desktop

The month of August marks a major milestone for the KDE project. Along with the occurance of the KDE Community World Summit 2004, "aKademy", the KDE team has released version 3.3 of the K Desktop Environment. This is the quickest release cycle in recent history, coming roughly six months after the release of KDE 3.2. To put this into perspective, KDE 3.2 took over a year to complete. Does this mean fewer features, less polish, or more bugs? Certainly not!

Forumzilla RSS/XML Newsreader for Thunderbird 0.5.2 & Screenshots

RSS/XML feedreading extention to Moz. Thunderbird, Forumzilla, has released new version 0.5.2 which fixes a critical usage bug. OSDir is featuring some screenshots of the application in use. As the forumzilla development team says, "no need for a separate News & Blogs account."

Release and Screenshots - Enlightenment DR 16.7.1

Enlightenment version DR16.7.1 has been released. In this new package, the theme has been replaced, dependencies have changed, and it has been split into three parts, "programs", "docs", and "themes". We've taken over thirty screenshots for those who like to look prior to downloading.
