My Network Go-Bag
I often get teased for taking so much tech hardware with me on
trips—right up until the Wi-Fi at the hotel, conference center
or rented house fails. I'm currently on vacation with my family and
some of our friends from Florida, and our rental home has a faulty Wi-Fi
router. Thankfully, I have a bag full of goodies for just this occasion.
How to get Oracle Virtual Box 5.0 installed on (Ubuntu) Linux
Oracle's Virtual Box is one of the easiest to use virtual machines that run under Linux. Although we Linux users have reasons not to use Oracle's products, the particular piece of software is maybe the best choice we can make in that area and at least it's open source. If you want to use other free software alternatives to Oracle's VM, you can check VMware Workstation, QEMU, or GNOME Boxes (currently works only on Fedora).

Outreachy and the road toward diversity
Diversity has a new full-time ally. Marina Zhurakhinskaya (zhoo-ra-HEEN-ska-ya) recently won an O'Reilly award for her work in diversity for free and open source software (FOSS), and she just successfully created a new position for diversity at Red Hat. Oh, and, she's a new mom.
Marina is always happy to share details about her work, so you can be sure to get a lot out of her responses to the questions I asked her about her new award, her role at Red Hat, and her work with Outreachy, a program to help underrepresented groups get involved in FOSS. For instance, she explains how she and her husband managed a new baby at OSCON this year, where she received her award.

How to configure virtual hosts in Apache HTTP server
Virtual hosting refers to the technique that allows a physical server to host more than one website domain (e.g., site1.com, site2.com). Virtual hosting is prevalent in shared web hosting environments, where typically hundreds or more of websites or blogs are packed on a single dedicated server to amortize server maintenance cost.
Open source for products in four rules (and 10 slides)
There are four rules to understand when building products out of open source software. A product team (engineering, product management, marketing) needs to understand these rules to participate best in an open source project community and deliver products and services to their customers at the same time. These four rules are the start of all other discussions about the open source product space.

A New Linux File-System Aims For Speed While Having ZFS/Btrfs-Like Features
The main goal for this new file-system is to "match ext4 and xfs on performance and reliability, but with the features of btrfs/zfs." This new file-system is Bcachefs. BcacheFS is based on BCache, the Linux kernel block layer cache for pairing a large-capacity hard drive with a low-capacity, high-performance solid-state drive to act as a cache.
