I've been doing CD burning in Linux for many years now and have always found the flexibility superior to anything in Windows. DVD burning also works very well. This article is on the verge of being outdated though as with the newer kernels and cdrecord utilities you no longer need the ide-scsi module. In fact I believe I recall a rant from Linus about how stupid he thought this was from the begining (SCSI emulation, and there are differing opinions on this). You can now access the device by it's special device name (/dev/hdc, etc) or via ATAPI. See the man pages on the more recent versions of the cdrecord utilities.

Linus' actual quote eas, "... the old cdrecord interfaces are an UNBELIEVABLE PILE OF CRAP!"

Tee hee. Good old Linus, you can't help but love the guy. I thought it went something like that. :) This message was edited Jul 21, 2004 9:32 PM
