Thin Client Set-up

We've also set up a thin-client environment. We used Quantian, a Knoppix-based bootable CD. It takes less time to set up the thin-client arrangement than it does to download and burn the Quantian CD. It's a perfect way to try out a thin-client set-up and you can always move your Quantian to harddisk just like Knoppix, otherwise you can leave it on the CD. Skanky 300 MHz Pentium II's cost about $30 a piece on E-bay (or your local junk PC store), so you could probably set up a 10-12 PC lab for under $1000. Although Quantian doesn't come with OpenOffice, if you install to the harddrive, just install OpenOffice. And people complain because Linux won't see my digital camera without me doing a little work. Wah, wah, wah ... |
