I am a desktop user.
I don't program or develop or code. I surf the net, I send emails, I type and print essays, I upload pictures from my digital camera. I listen to cd's and watch the occasional DVD. I do this ALL on Linux. In order to be able to do this I need to enable DMA (on a i586 distro this really should happen automatically), and install a few RPM's (easier than double clicking on setup.exe - providing the dependencies are met). I've been doing all this with Linux for a year now. With a little attention Linux is already ready for the desktop. |
