For MS Windows users, this single file "rufus.exe" is an excellent tool to write/burn a .ISO file to a USB Flash drive. Rufus does not require installation, and its small size 1.5 Megabytes leads to a quick download. You can run rufus from a command line window by typing "rufus.exe" or click on it from a GUI file window, like windows explorer. Rufus.exe is a single executable file. Download the executable and run it – no installation is necessary.
Rufus is the fastest at writing the .ISO file into the USB Flash drive. For these benefits, I recommend using "Rufus.exe" to MS Windows computer users who wish to try any Linux Distribution or BSD Distributions from DistroWatch website http://www.distrowatch.com http://rufus.akeo.ie/ Rufus Website I, also, recommend trying Slacko 6.3.2 PuppyLinux from http://slacko.eezy.xyz to new to Linux users as a good first Linux distro because of its small size 200 Megabytes and fast operation from DRAM memory. I have used those other tools also. I recommend Etcher tool http://etcher.io as being easy to run and has helpful messages. I enjoyed using Linux Live USB http://linuxliveusb.com, because it would FTP download your selection from 350 Linux .ISO Files, like Linux Mint http://www.linuxmint.com and the write/burn that .ISO file to a USB Flash Drive. What ever tool you choose, enjoy Linux and BSD in your neighborhood. Make a bootable USB Flash drive as a safety measure to have available when a computer can't boot from the hard disk drive. Booting from the USB Flash drive, you can save files and pictures off from a working hard drive to the USB Flash drive or an external USB Hard drive. I like Yumi ( see https://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/ ) for it's ability to create USB drives which allow you to boot multiple distributions and tools, but the UEFI version is a work in progress. |
