"Embrace and extend" is their founder's philosophy. I don't believe it has changed.

Don't forget "extinguish."

Once upon a time there was a lion and a lamb. For years the lion had been feasting on lambs and knew that they made a tasty treat.

But now the lion says that he loves the lamb and asks the lamb to dance. Could it be that the lion has changed and now just wants to be friends.

What should the lamb do?

Lions will be lions. Is it more ethical to cheer the lamb not eaten or the lion not starved?

However, Microsoft is neither lion nor lamb... Microsoft is more like the 'Nothing' in the Neverending Story.

Microsoft want to set the boundaries and kill the hopes and dreams of those who wish to live free.

you all need to go see zootopia. the lion can become an actuary, and the lamb an astronaut.

@penguinist,

Seems to me that there already are VERY APPROPRIATE English-language sayings having animals repesenting M$'s "relationship" with Linux. For M$'s "Embrace" of Linux, we have A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing. For M$'s perpetual attempts to Extend and eventuallly Extinguish Linux, we have A Leopard Doesn't Change Its Spots.

MS has every STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) known, but still wants to sleep with you.

How's that for a different analogy?

Or, the first one is free (it comes with the system), but that's how you get hooked.
