On the surface, this is terrific. I looked down the list of applications and realised that everything I want, plus some more yet, is packaged with this distribution and with Gnome even.....and I am a KDE user from way back.

I didn't see it, but I assume I would have to download and install the various codecs for dvds and so forth, including K3b........standard practice with a USA distribution since they are all deliberately crippled in this area, and it is why Linux Mint is such a good basic distro for a new comer.

The only item I will miss is KMail, but since this has been so badly destroyed by the KDE team and its insistence to run all the Akonadi semantic desktop muck with KMail, it's not something I will miss badly......Thunderbird is a good drop in replacement.

PS.....I downloaded openSUSE 13.2 in 32bit legacy format a week ago.......intending to give it a spin. So far, I haven't had the time to fiddle, but given this article, I am going to force myself ......AND........give Gnome a whirl and see what it comes up with. I must admit, until KDE provides a "KDE light" that gives us the old system dedicated to simply Unix commands with the Akonadi semantic muck stripped out, Gnome (or almost anything else such as Xfce etc.) is a far better alternative.
