I've noticed some duplicate ZDNet submissions making it onto the site lately, i.e. http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/208291/index.html http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/208419/index.html |

There is an LXer filter that tells an editor if a story has been posted before according to the url of the story. It's pretty accurate, however I suspect that a small quantity of ZDNet stories have escaped that filter by the application of a rather strange code string that is added to the url but does not appear to alter the validity of the altered url or its ability to open the ZDNet site if you leave it in place. I am going to have a look at the story queue and see if I am correct. Update: These stories all appear to carry this title info: "Linux Foundation finds enterprise Linux growing at Windows' expense (Dec 05, 2014)" and curiously, in each case the url has this added tag: /#ftag=RSSbaffb68 > It that tag is removed, the url works as usual, and even more oddly, all I have encountered so far seem to be dealing with stories by Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols. If you don't remove it, the added tag confuses the LXer filter into deciding that the story hasn't been posted. I suspect there has been a duplicate dump onto LXer so I am taking it onto my delicate little shoulders and am going to remove the lot. Thanks "linuxscreenshot". |

It's possible those slipped through before I attacked the queue with proposed postings. I only did those and there were a lot of them. Miracles take a few days. |

A good story is always worth retelling. ;) |

This duplication of SJVN's material is still occurring "en masse".......This time, a whole bunch of them were listed by "bob" under just "Dec 05, 2014", but with that same strange "tag" at the end of the url. I'm now playing safe with SJVN's stuff.....If he personally submits it, it's going to be a new article and "safe to post". Generally speaking SJVN's articles are very good reading (well, that's my opinion anyway - feel free to disagree), so I'd hate to miss out on any of his items. But this constant batching of SJVN's material somewhere is not nice. |
