Since my Google-fu has come up empty, I will have to paraphrase from memory. When asked whether or not Linux was susceptible to the Y2K bug, Torvalds answered no, that's now how time is kept in Linux. "There is the 2038 problem, but hopefully people will be using something better than Linux by then." and... "Changing the timer from 32 to 64 bytes is trivial, merely a kernel upgrade, and that will outlast the heat death of the universe. I think that will be enough." |
