Why not use a pile of Raspberry Pi's?

A six-pack stack of nicely outfitted Pi's could be an even smaller DIY Datacenter ya know. Though CERTAINLY not as powerful as the "Rockhopper", the 6-pk RPi-stack'll be much more inexpensive and more DIY than the Clusterbit's! You could even use a relatively cheap 8-port switch for a RPi six-pack Datacenter and still have two free ports for extension. |

would this be more or less powerful than a beowulf cluster from the 90s? greetings, eMBee. |

I am pretty sure that this would be more powerful than a 90s era beowulf cluster. Modern ARM cores are way more powerful than stock x86 machines from the 90s. This thing would be very cool to have (literally cool, too). One small footprint box, one power supply, no hairball of wires running all over the place... The only issue is getting the right (desired) software to run, since ARM is different from x86 (not just a re-compile, but needing to account for big-endian/little-endian issues). Still, this would be an awesome thing for an IT pro/home hobbyist. I'm left wondering about the cost. |

Throughput could be an issue. The same controller manages both USB and Ethernet. |
