I was reading about this ice bucket challenge the other day and to be honest it really puzzles me. According to Wikipedia, the challenge is to pour iced water over yourself or donate to the charity. What I can't understand is why so many people are so eagerly coming forward to demonstrate their unwillingness to donate to Lou Gerig disease research. If you were interested at all, wouldn't it be better to donate some cash?

Most of the people doing the challenge don't even know what ALS stands for. At this point, it is more like the latest thing to do for all the internet attention whores.

Last week, it was lighting yourself on fire. This week, it is dumping ice water on yourself. Next week, stay tuned...

Virtually everyone who does the ice water thing also donates. It's just intended to be fun and silly and raise awareness and money for a good cause. No negativity required on this story. It is a good thing all around.

I got no money to give right now... And I got no intention to look silly (or sillier than I am),... I'll pass on this fad, worthy as the cause may be...

Fire and ice, together at last, thanks to the Internet.
