This is a silly argument by Linus. Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, etc also create boot images that are not the latest kernel. If the issue is that they are broken, that is something to address. But not many distros rebuild the installer every kernel release. |

I use Linux Mint 13 LTS running on Linux Kernel 3.2.0-55-generic. And that just updated this morning. Works fine for me. |

He didn't ask for every kernel release. He asked for once a month. Most distros don't do that, either. |

Fedora does have unofficial updated images available at https://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/live-respins/. They are not linked from the download page because they haven't gone through any kind of testing but Linus says he is fine with that. So this should solve his problem. |

If this is a bad thing, then Debian Stable would be terrible. But it's not, so the blanket statement is wrong. Is it ok to disagree with Linus? Will I be excommunicated? |

A note on compiling kernels... I installed Debian on a friends machine that is likely 6 years old. An HP "media" machine with lots of geegaws that never got used. Anyway, the 3.2 kernel that is in Stable was crashing. So I compiled up 3.10.x, the "long term support" version, and that had problems too. On a lark, I packaged 3.11.4 (or whatever it was at the time) and that has been rock solid. Very strange. |
