I keep hearing how Linux isn't any good because "no one uses it".

That argument certainly can't be used in this case!

Mercedes Benz isn't any good because no one buys it.

Don't believe me? Come to this town where I live ! No one has a Mercedes....so...it isn't any good !

Pfff...the 'linux isn't...' song is getting boring.

Mercedes is apparently #3 in its class after BMW and Audi, and BMW is only somwhere around 2 %

Volkswagon is under 5%, so I guess it's the Apple/Mac of the automotive world.

So clearly, none of them can be considered to have any sort of "success" in the market. Volvo, for example, is nearly invisible in the US market -- which is structured around and controlled by more established brands, so Volvo might as well (really should) just give up:

Car makers that might as well back out of U.S. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/car-makers-that-might-as-we...

-- gosh, where have we seen that logic before? It seems so very familiar...

Does that mean I should sell my Volvo and buy a Volkswagen?

Well, Volvo's market share is so low, that it's not even charted by most of the well-known market-share stats companies. Obviously this "Volvo" is just an enthusiast automobile, tinkered with by skilled hobbyists in their home garages -- but still just not suitable for "typical" drivers or ordinary, "real world" use...

I'm happy with my Fiat after the first six months. Now it turns out they've done well enough to bring additional models into the States. Build a good product at a good price and people will buy it.
