I left a comment on Snowlinux's release page asking them point blank how their latest Snowlinux MATE or Cinnamon release differs from Linux Mint 15. My comment was promptly deleted by the developer, without answering the question. Let's face the fact. Snowlinux is nothing more than Linux Mint 15 within which they simply replaced Mint branding with their snowflake and used a different default theme and wallpaper. I can't understand why these developers feel the need to duplicate effort elsewhere and can't simply be satisfied joining the Mint developers to make Mint even better. |

So what's the problem? That's a consequence of the freedom that the open source licenses give to all of us, there is nothing wrong with people doing their own experiments. I guess the Snowlinux developers had their reasons for doing their own thing and we are free to ignore them. They are not harming anybody. Live and let live. |

Does Mint provide an E17 based version? I know that Snowlinux does. I think that, like various other projects, Snowlinux heavily bases their work on other distributions and does a little work to provide something extra that they would like to see. I'm not sure how much of the work they do themselves and how much is pulling components from various sources together (not only Mint), but I don't feel offended by what they're doing. it's the way Free Software is supposed to work. |

I think we should give them some time. I recall when Mint was first released there were howls from Ubuntu folks that it was just a rebadged Ubuntu with codecs installed for newbies. Thanks to Clem and the team Mint is now very distinctive from Ubuntu with MATE and cinnamon desktops the most obvious value added. This took time. Let us see what Snowlinux comes up with. If nothing they will fade rapidly. |

Why would you troll another distro? Live and let live. They are filling a niche that somebody wants. If you have using Linux for a long time then you have the technical experience to overcome what ever hurdles new users, average users or niche users are having. Respins are not for you , move on. For the most part, I think respins are for average users. Average user to me is defined as a person who uses their computer as an appliance the 90% of the time. If your reading a Linux news or blog site, you are not an average user. If you know what a config file is and what it means to a program, you are not an average user. Once again, Live and Let Live !! |
