What's wrong with xwd?

It's been around since... well, forever. Most, if not all, Linux systems have a utility that can manipulate the resulting screen dump (the GIMP, for example). Did this wheel really need to be reinvented?

The GIMP needs a GUI-capable desktop running in order to function. scrot works even when there is no X server running.
