If you're going to jump the gun and post a news item, then you should at least try to get it right. It's not only the gnome-panel that's been forked but rather Gnome 3.x fall-back mode in it's entirety. The new fork is called Consort desktop and includes not only the panel (consort-panel) but also Metacity (Consortium, includes consort-session) and even Nautilus (Athena). The purpose is to provide a Gnome 2.2x experience using Gnome 3.x libraries, unlike MATE which is a fork of Gnome 2.2x and utilizes GTK 2.x libraries. The creators of SolusOS are responsible for this latest fork of the mess that's Gnome 3.x |
