I have a theory about what went wrong for the author of this article. I just finished installing a four way multi-boot on an Asus Zenbook Prime UX31-A ultrabook which is a UEFI-based system. During my learning process, I found out that both Fedora and Ubuntu require their 64 bit installations even on small memory UEFI systems. The 32 bit installations can not detect the UEFI boot configuration. UEFI uses GPT disk partitioning rather than traditional MBR partitioning, and if you try to look at a GPT disk with a non-GPT tool like fdisk, what you see looks like an unpartitioned disk, much like the picture the author shows in this article. You must use a GPT-capable tool like parted to properly view the disk partitions. |
