Are you kidding me!? There is no good client for sending/receiving 140 alphanumeric characters on Linux? It's what Linux does better than anything else. Is Twitter working overtime to foil Linux clients? Using some kinda mysterious closed-source protocol? I'm sorry, but I don't understand. I guess I'm jes not big enough of a twit. ;)

There are good ones, but none of them are coded by Twitter. :)

Twit ==> A silly or foolish person

Oh, is that the real reason why they call it Twitter! I am glad I don't twit yet. :-)

I doubt Twitter has any interest in desktop Linux, let alone building clients for it. Their interest in the foundation is likely fueled solely by their dependence on the kernel to power their entire infrastructure.

So, what are all those Middle Eastern denizens using to twitter up an Arab Spring? Somehow, i jes can't see a buncha A-rabs with insanely expensive IPhones or M$ Zunes. I suspect most use Android smartphones. What app is the most popular for twitter on an Android device? Is that not a Linux based app? ....kinda? As you may have deduced, by now, I know spit about cellphones and their ilk. ;)

And I always thought the best app to use for something like Twitter is one's frickin' web browser.

The best app for Twitter is /dev/null.
