Many have hinted across the Linuxphere that efforts like Mate and Cinnamon would be lost in the swirling winds of Open Source change. It is wonderful to see that Clem's work to side-step the Gnome 3 wreckage has paid off. Way to go buddy. You done good. This is a fairly nice gathering of default software. However, ahem...not to flog a dead horse...I noticed (again) that Gimp 2.8 isn't getting any love here: · Linux kernel 3.4.2; · Cinnamon 1.4 desktop environment; · Chromium 21.0.1145 web browser; · Banshee 2.2 media player; · Shotwell 0.11 photo manager; · GIMP 2.6 image editor; · LibreOffice 3.5 office suite; · Wine 1.4 Windows emulator; · Cheese 3.2 webcam application; · Pidgin 2.10 multi-protocol instant messenger; · Dashboard with the social toolbar; · Control Center; · and much more! As many of you pointed out in another discussion, there may be good reason for this but since this is an almost new OS, I'm not understanding the hesitation on inclusion. |

Quoting:GIMP 2.6 image editor; I very much agree with Ken, GIMP 2.8 should be included by default. Especially now it comes with single window interface, which makes it a lot more familiar to most users and is a pleasure to use I might add. Also, many users who are active on social media (You Tube, FB, & Flicker) would find it very handy. In terms of other social media applications, I prefer Digikam, RecordItNow, KDEnlive, Telepathy, etc. |
