Simple, elegant and familiar. Need I say more? I hope the Mint devs continue with this excellent project! |

I like it, I mean I want to like it. Everything you say is true but so much like Linux is for many of us, on some machines it is great, on others not so much. Mate runs fine on my machine. I built a fairly decent quad core with plenty of RAM and it even performs well under KDE4 with the "dreaded" A&N services running. However Cinnamon has some peculiar quirks that dampen the whole experience for me. When I open let's say the Mint Menu while choosing panel widgets, everything freezes and I have to do a hard reset to get things up and running again. Disabling desktop effects corrects this but what's the point of running it if all the bells aren't ringing and all the whistles are blowing? It's sure to be corrected. I see the issue has been reported a few times in the forums, in fact it's been unanswered for several weeks so I'm not going to bother. I just hope they get it worked out. It's a much needed environment. |

Helios, Looking at the commits to git it appears that a 2d version will be coming soon. Might cut down on power consumption as well. Obviously the 3d version should be better debugged but I for one would use the 2d version. |
