No terrible 4th actually, our little 14 year old Fox Terrier Cross Chihuahua died. She was so sick we had to have her put down. We cried. |

Indeed, Happy Secession Day! A day off from work to burn meat and blow things up. :^) TA, my sympathies. I know how it is to lose a four-footed family member. 14 years? That's a good life to celebrate. |

I am so sorry Tracy..I have been in your shoes. I had a American Staffordshire Terrier, otherwise known as a Pitbull. For 14+ years that I had to put down as well. I know that pain..:-( |

I'm sorry Tracyanne. People who don't have pets don't realize that they really do become members of the family. My deepest condolences. A couple of months back I lost Zephyr to heart disease. She was 9, which is actually very old for a ferret, kind of like a person in their 90s. I lost Chin Soon to lymphoma a few weeks later, just short of her ninth birthday. The emergency vet congratulated me on keeping her healthy and happy so long. I didn't feel like being congratulated. I felt miserable and was in tears. It never, ever gets any easier. I'd bet you gave your dog a wonderful life for all they years she was with you. Try and take some consolation in that. |

We still have our Maltese/Shih Tzu cross, but she too is missing her best friend. Book ends we used to call them, as they would both run to the car or up and down stairs leaning against each other (actually dogs being dogs trying to be first in line for whatever was in store). In some ways it's probably worse for her, as she doesn't understand what's happened, she's mostly looking lost, at the moment. |

He was my best friend for 15 years and it took me an agonizing week to finally understand that by helping him cross the rainbow bridge, I was doing the only thing that a loving person could do.
