When you create the first user during installation, simply check the box 'Add to Administrators' and sudo is configured.

How is that superior to editing the sudoers file with visudo after installation? On a multi-user machine you may need to do more than allow the first user to have root privileges. I actually prefer the methodology in the article. Teaching people to do it in a way that isn't Fedora specific is far more useful.

Even if the article's title is "Fedora 17 Post Installation Guide". Something tells me Ubuntu users aren't going to be reading it.

it's not for ubuntu users, it's for fedora users to learn something they can keep using even if they switch distributions...

Quoting: it's not for ubuntu users, it's for fedora users to learn something they can keep using even if they switch distributions...

And that, in a nutshell, is the biggest reason that when I started with Linux, the final contenders for my first distro was a choice between Debian and Slackware, rather than Suse or Mandrake. (The second-biggest reason was my relatively limited hardware -- but I did already have a boxed Suse on hand).
