I think that the word irresponsible is rather strong. There are installer requirements, system requirements and there are user application program requirements. Reading down the source thread I see that people can install on sub 512MB memory systems. The reality is that people repurpose old computers, and there are humble brand new low memory systems out there. I suggest giving information to users and letting them decide. Fitness for purpose is a user issue. If there was a way the installer, or perhaps some software compatibility tool, could determine what in the computer is supported and give info how to get everything running then we'd all be in a better place. That information can then be useful to a package manager in contraindicating/suggesting individual apps like compositing. |
