The sweetness-and-light spin gets going in the second paragraph:
Quoting:The bookstore giant had said this year that it was exploring strategic options for the business, including a potential divestiture or strategic partnership.

Not until the 12th paragraph is there so much as the faintest breath about Microsoft's recent patent-troll style legal extortion against Barnes and Noble -- like so:
Quoting: Through the deal, the two companies will settle their patent disputes, and Barnes & Noble will produce a Nook e-reading application for the forthcoming Windows 8 operating system, which will run on traditional computers and tablets.
And that's the only allusion to the whole stinking mess.

A bit of searching on terms like "Barnes Noble Microsoft patent android Nook", reveals nothing but articles in the "mergers and Acquisitions" section.

This may be "reporting", but it sure isn't "journalism".

The Wall Sreet Journal actually has better coverage

Yeah the NYT is not what is was. Their investigative journalism is weak these days. The Guardian is a better bet for that kind of thing.

They employ Paul Krugman. Further demonstrations of their fall from greatness are merely punctuation.

He is being good. His unfiltered view of Paul Krugman would peel paint and isn't suitable for family viewing. :)

"and isn't suitable for family viewing."

Neither is Paul Krugman. :^)

Yeah, Bob knows so much more than a Nobel prize winning economist. Bob's economic credentials are... um... TOS violations all over the place today.

Since when is a simply stated opinion about the worth of a single economist a political statement? For all you can tell from the statement alone, Bob may not like him because of his astrological sign.

It's rather pointless for someone to go out of their way to not bring politics into the discussion if others are going to petulantly insist they are doing so.

@caitlyn: "Yeah, Bob knows so much more than a Nobel prize winning economist."

Some of those supposed "economists" brought the financial world to its knees recently and some of them are insisting that we keep kicking it while it's down.

I don't know the guy, but "economist" (Nobel prize winner or not) is not a label that instills much trust or authority at the moment...

@skelband: Agreed. "Economics" is about as much of a "science" as alchemy and witchcraft are.
