Quoting:Does the open-source Solaris community remain relevant? Don't really know that there was ever a large user base. When it was OpenSolaris under Sun's tutelage, most of the users were also Solaris developers. Any developer wanting to contribute had to submit code through a "partner" Sun developer's approval. I'm sure the situation under Oracle became worse. Having said that, I've tried OpenIndiana's latest offering. I found it to be extremely stable. It's somewhat lacking in applications, but that will probably improve. Their implementation of ZFS is also excellent. And their ZFS port seems to need a lot less system resources than PC-BSD's does. |
