First of all.......the distro is OK with me.
The installer ( partly ) sucks with me ....on 2 pieces of hardware, twice.
I see 2 choices.
1--Grub2 in MBR
2--Grub2 not installed (.?.)
Q: did I miss something?
If I install Grub2 to the MBR, it overrides my previous setup , and 3 installs (pclos-suze-mageia) I can not bootup...it says...panic.
If I do not install the Grub2 it's a very big RPITA to chainload. If I restore my previous menu.lst , all is OK again. Sorry Chakra people, not acceptable to not give choices. Of course, the idiot could be me too , who knows ! |

Is it me, or is Linux getting to be worse than Windows these days? They're making the UIs even worse, and now they're making it so you can't dual-boot, which used to be something unique to Windows. |

> Is it me, or is Linux getting to be worse than Windows these days? You might think so, until you try to use Windows again. Then you remember... :) |

You're only having trouble with Windows because you keep thinking outside the box. Stick to the GUI path and the wizards will take care of you; and Bob, and Clippy. |

I haven't had to use Windows since January 31. I've not booted into Windows, and everything I did on Windows I can do on Linux. Up until the end of January I was employed as a .NET developer, under contract, developing websites in C# ASP.NET. I had to use Visual Studio and MS SQl Server, and that was the reason I needed Windows. However I can do everything I did on Windows with C# Mono and MonoDevelop and MySQL, and I can even host the ASP.NET websites on Linux servers. |

Haven't had to user Windows since before Windows XP came out, around 2001. Only time I ever touch a Windows machine is to boot a LiveCD on a client's machine for data retrieval after a crash. |

I use Win7 once in a while for work purposes (very rarely, thankfully). However, it's not that bad: at least it has a normal menu, and it's possible to turn off the computer from that menu, without having to use any secret key combinations or other such silliness. There's also no weird, radical UI changes, except for the stupid task bar where it doesn't show application names any more; compared to the radicalism going on with Gnome3 and Unity, that's small potatoes. Unlike modern popular Linux systems, in Windows I don't have to just know what software is installed, I can look in the menu to see what's there. In a modern Linux system, that isn't the case: you're expected to memorize every single application there, and start them by searching for them. What if you don't know the name, or you don't even know if something's installed, or what choices you have? Luckily, not all Linux desktop environments are this brain-dead, but the two most popular ones are. |

I have interesting thing. I made a copy of some files on an ntfs formated disk, gave them to my ex employer, and he can't read them on either Windows or Mac, now Linux has no trouble reading or writing to the disk, but somehow that is still a linux problem apparently. I think there is actually a problem with the disk, the thing is linux seems to be able to work around the problem. EDIT No I worked it out Windows7 doesn't have the drivers for the USB drive, it's old and probably USB 1.1 |
