Eliza is cool. More so considering her age. What is dissapointing is the rest of the A.I. "entities". Most of them are mere Eliza immitations, that marginally perform better because the hardware is beefier these days and it is easier and faster to match patterns to known to be acceptable responses. What is honorably mentioned in Turing Test contestants are still a far cry from HAL 9000. Maybe IBM's Watson is different, but then again, mere mortals don't have the opportunity to play with it. |
