Similar to contents of the LXer thread 'Good story!' of exactly two months ago found at http://lxer.com/module/forums/t/32297/

There is also LXer editor hkwint's post of two years ago 'Ubuntu "Stick" Blues - or USB for short' found at http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/127425 going back over two years ago, and generating several insightful threads on this subject.

A contributor to the the BerkeleyLUG blog posted a similar topic in further detail several weeks ago; 'Distro-neutrally creating a liveUSB', found at http://www.berkeleylug.com/?p=858

In that regard, I've been playing around with Yumi since that discussion, and I've created a 4GB USB drive with Ubuntu, Mint, Slax, Trinity Rescue Kit, gparted, clonezilla, DBAN, a couple of virus scanners (in addition to the ones Trinity includes), and the Seagate Seatools for DOS iso, with aobut 800 MB left over. Since Yumi has the option to include Hiren's boot CD, it should be possible to add it and run the Western Digital diagnostic tools too, but I think I'll get an 8 GB dirve before I try that. I suspect Yumi could boot a UBCD4Win iso image also, though I haven't tried that.

That said, for single distro USB creation, unetbootin works and works well.

Hmm, I just checked, and Hiren's includes most of the disk diagnostics, so I wouldn't need to add them.

Haven't looked yet...has UnetBootin gotten to the point of allowing persistent installs?

It doesn't say anything about it on their site, Ken. So I suspect not.
