“The nail-biting transitions to Unity and Gnome 3 are behind us, so this cycle is an opportunity to put perfection front and centre.”

Bling Shuttleworth

Oh wait everyone is jumping ship. I guess "perfection" *could* be defined as the null set.

Well, if there are no users, you can safely say that all your users are perfectly happy. :P

Oh, I'm not so sure the "transitions" are behind us. Nope. Not quite.

Nice spin, Mark.

Perhaps the eponymous SABDFL should rename himself the SADFL. It is shorter and more accurate and could also be used to abbreviate something else relevant.

Quote from piece:
Quoting:The first change in Precise Pangolin will be an increase in the size of the release, up from 700MB to 750MB, which will mean that the release will no longer fit on a CD but will need a DVD or flash drive during installation.
....and thus slightly lower-end PCs shall have their ubuntu veritably thrust out from the Garden of Eden to toil with other distros through the sweat of their CD-only brow(s). I.e., a reference to those PCs which absolutely must boot from CD drives due to their lack of DVD drives or due to older BIOSes (non-upgradeable, non-USB-boot).

And BTW, that size and format change could very well end up in PP 12.04 K/X/Lubuntus too, so these selfsame slightly lower-end PCs could all too soon have their 'buntus thrust out of "Eden" as well.

Quote from piece:
Quoting:On the desktop the Unity interface is to remain. This is to be expected despite the fact that there have been numerous complaints about the new interface. For many the switch to the new Canonical-created Unity interface was forced on them at a time when Unity felt incomplete. But, over the past year the interface has matured significantly and Mark Shuttleworth is adamant that Unity will remain the default desktop.
Adamance, eh??

Then shall "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall" whilst the Tower of Unity is built in that veritable "plain in the land of Shinar"??

"Bling Shuttleworth" indeed!!

First KDE, and now GNOME and Unity. There is a lesson in this tumult, if we're willing to listen.

The great advantage of Linux is choice. But it's only an advantage if we're willing to choose different.

In Linux it is wise not to get too wedded to one specific distro or DE. Much like working for an employer (or yourself), always be ready to move on.
