Clem and Company will produce a usable Gnome desktop despite the best efforts of the Gnome DevTeam. Why the Devs couldn't do this themselves, is beyond me.

Clem is right to move on to G3 as G2 will quickly start losing momentum now. And yes, I know....Mate is on the horizon but with only one guy hammering out the code, how long will his enthusiasm and interest hold out? Unless he builds a strong team around him, I'm not liking the chances of seeing Mate around in 3 years.

Putting the features back into Gnome3 that were taken from G2 is not only wise, I think this hybrid will be a great desktop. The best of both worlds as it were.

Now maybe, just maybe, the constant bleating of "Mint is only Ubuntu with new themes" will quiet. Given the level of ignorance most anonymous posters show, I seriously doubt it, but it will be easier to make them look like the idiots they are at any rate.

Kudos to Clem for producing a desktop his users actually want to use.

Isn't it amazing what can be achieved by listening to others feedback rather than living in an echo chamber of self congratulation and hubris.

based on the demo images, I only have one question.

"Will I be able to remove the top panel and have just a single bottom panel?"

You will change nothing, TA. It's like elite French restaurants where they throw you out if you drink coffee before the meal, or request salt.

I slay me.

I have Mint on my laptop and it's nice. I do not find myself cussing at it, which is a good reliable sign it is good.

Better yet, will I be able to auto-hide the panel in vertical orientation on the left hand side???

JaseP, nobody on LXer cares about orientation so there is no need to hide.

Oh, you mean the Mint DE. Never mind.
