And I do mean in sheer volume. |

I found the responses to be surprisingly even tempered and honest. They were sprinkled with people like me who told them that their work sucked and they had moved on...but not as many as I expected. What I do expect is that most everything mentioned will be ignored. I think this was just a case of "case-building" against Gnome...something that can be pointed to later as proof that the community did reach out and was ignored. Of course, if Gnome were to take this seriously, it would have been hosted on their own website. |

I've been testing Fedora 16 with Gnome 3.2 the past few days, while Gnome 3 isn't my cup of tea, it's tons more functional than Unity. I could actually find things and customize it a bit. |

What do you do if your users all use their desktops as just that - they cover it with files and pictures and folders? We may not think that's a smart way to manage your files, but that is what they do. So then you have to start explaining activities and so on to them? Its no different than if you try to totally rearrange their physical desktops and filing system, they have got used to what they have, they know how to work with it, and they simply will not go for it. Hence xfce or lxde. Actually, lxde seems to be the closest thing to gnome 2. If you really want them to have large toy like applications icons down the side of the screen, why not just take them to Windowmaker? But why would you do that if they are happy and productive in Gnome 2? |

@tuxchick I agree fully. Unity is totally useless for someone not using a mobile device. I find Gnome shell better, but it requires too many mouse clicks to do anything. It take at least twice as many clicks as a comparable Gnome 2 system. For now I'm still using Gnome 2, but when I can no longer do that I hope XFCE will be user (configuration) friendly enough to switch over to it. Right now I can't figure out a "simple" way to change menu items. |

This is a great opportunity for Mint who are bringing out both gnome 2 and 3 versions I believe. Choice is good. Hope Clem can cope. |
