Despite this being a so-so blog item on the Linux Journal Readers Choice Awards for 2011 -- [plug="shameless_and _self_indulgent"] Larry the Free Software Guy wrote a much better voting guide [/plug] -- there is one category that deserves special mention.

39. Best Linux Book

It's a fill-in-the-blank, and I voted for "The Book of Audacity" by Carla Schroder. I hope you all do, too. Thanks for a great guide, tuxchick.

Not to take away from the author's undoubtedly great efforts in this particular Audacity guide, but there is also the 'Documentation and Support' from the Audacity project itself, found at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/

The latter Audacity project's Help resource appears to be fairly comprehensive, is mostly "plugless" and is certainly free-as-in-beer.

I'm with Larry. The Audacity project's documentation isn't bad, but Book of Audacity is better. It fills in the missing Audacity pieces and teaches JACK better than anyone. Plus Alsa deep voodoo, audio hardware, correct multi-channel mappings for different audio file formats (WAV, FLAC, Ogg, etc.) and other cool stuff. All laid out usefully with a squillion photos. Including my dogs.

That's why I dish it out whenever I can, dino. It's a full-time job being selfless.

After that amazing plug TC I couldn't resist. I did the survey and voted for your book.

lcafiero does not know Jack. Jack is my dog and Larry has never met him.

Sorry @Colonel, I am sorry to inform you that YOU don't know Jack as well as you think you do.

For that matter, your shocking revelation makes clear that I don't know Jack so well, either.

Jack is my in-laws' dog.

I've always thought Jack just a bit distant, but your vital information makes all the pieces fall into place:

Jack is leading a double (at least) life!

Explains why he doesn't always come when called.

/me feels a song by The Band coming on, as a dog named Jack is mentioned in "The Weight."
