Use repo on Ubuntu?

There are a lot of these respins of Ubuntu around. Might it be possible just to use their additional repos with a regular Ubuntu install? That way you get the extra software without having to do an install....

That would be one way to do it, montezuma.

However, why would you do that rather than just use another *buntu with all the bells and whistles? The point of this distro, apparently, seems to be Ubuntu with scientific stuff for scientists.

Ah, good reason :-) But I think you can probably access other Ubuntu/Debian repositories through Synaptic (it's Synaptic they use, right?) if you really wanted to.

Well I think the key is that this is specialised math and science software not in other repos.....I wonder whether TC knows the answer ;-) (he wonders idly)
