I seem to recall some LXer discussions along the same lines, that MS' Linux and FOSS strategy was to find a way to put up tollgates. And here we are. |

I've been using the "tollbooth" analogy for years - it's a perfect fit for the lazy, greedy, unproductive business model in question. Lobbying to increase government support for their Intellectual Precious is cheaper than actually inventing something new, manufacturing it, and selling it to customers. Far higher margins in just finding ways to make "consumers" pay for permission to DO things. |
