Different types of free. One is the type that takes no money from your pocket, like Google. That doesn't mean they get nothing of yours; they get information they can use however they want.

If I want to go off the grid I'd go off the grid - but if I'm a participating netizen and there are parties with info on me I'd rather it be google than microsoft any day.
