Here is a workaround for getting 32-bit Skype to run in 64-bit Debian:

The thread at Debian Forums has some different methods (including using the 64-bit Ubuntu package):

The Debian Wiki calls the 64-bit solution an "ugly hack":

It makes me want to figure out another way (Mumble?)

Is there a problem running skype on 64Bit Linux? or just standard Debian. I can't fault it on my 64 bit Linux Mint box.

I admit to having restrained myself to using 32bit for the foreseeable future, what with flash and skype and ... that's all I can think of.

I also wasn't aware there is a problem with Flash on 64 Bit Linux, this also is news to me.

Skype and Flash are premium examples of proprietary enervation.

I'm looking for a voip solution that offers good enough audio quality to record for a podcast (along with the ability to make that recording) for Linux but with the ability to connect with client software that runs on Windows and Mac. I'll consider something like Talkshoe, but also Mumble and ???

I'd rather not run a server (most likely a VPS) if I don't have to.

Even when I could run Skype in Linux (I didn't have any problem with 64-bit Fedora ...), I had trouble getting a good recording in Linux. The infamous Skype Call Recorder didn't like my setup.

Have you looked at Ekiga? I understand Empathy is now the default in Ubuntu because it also handles voice/video chat, and it might be suitable too.

What is the problem? Skype, Flash, everything works on my 64 bit install of LMDE.....oops, That is a testing release. Wheezy will solve all your problems.

TC, the Colonel loled.

When LMDE gets encrypted volumes, I'm there.

Why is there a problem with 64bit flash? Works perfect for me.
