Went over to the forums, and these tiny devices do seem a bit problematic. We considered them, but finally decided it was worth spending the extra and getting a packaged solution, so we bought a Bubba2, the newer version of which is Bubba3. Its tiny, silent, cool, and has a hard drive. Pretty easy to manage, and its proper Debian without any hacking. Very pleased.

I'll have to look at that one. I blogged this myself recently and was pretty excited about getting into plug computing until I started reading that these things seem to have a very short life before they all but burn out.

We all have routers, and I even have a couple of power-line networking modules that pretty much just work.

If the plug computers can get to that point -- where they don't run so hot and are extremely reliable, then I'll be a whole lot more interested.

I just took a look - http://www.excito.com/ - and it appears pretty hard to get one of these in the U.S.

At 279 Euros, that's about $379 US - mighty expensive. It does have a 500 GB hard drive and a lot of features. I would definitely consider this as a file/backup server.
