I was thinking about getting a Kinect, but now I may wait for one of these more open devices. |

Truth (AFAIK) is, these kind of devices were running on Linux before market intro by MS. I always point people to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJetv8fuYfo&feature=related |

I'm not surprised, especially in that the firm was so tight-lipped about it until after M$ released the Kinect. But I have to hand it to M$ in terms of marketing it, by wrapping all the various components up in a nice bow, just in time for X-mas 2010... The Kinect's form factor seems very living room friendly, too, about the size of a center channel Home Theater speaker. I am wondering if the alternative open source implementations will be as nice to integrate into a living room environment... |
