DoudouLinux (pronounced doodoolinux)?

I could see maybe DouLinux then it sounds like you are doing something. DoudouLinux just sounds like cr*p to me.

It doesn't look that bad, I might even install somewhere for my little sister. She loves linux (and I didn't need to tell her). She hates windows and dislikes Mac.

Seems to me you got a serious problem. Kids see things different than adults

Besides, since when do we judge a distro by the name it has.

Grow up, please

It's probably a great distribution for the kids. My only concern was that they may associate Linux with what you get rid of in the WC. I could think of better names to make children laugh without that kind of association.

After all the Ubuntu name takes a lot of abuse (just talking about the name here not the quality) and it doesn't come close to this one.

If history teaches us anything, it's that a 3-year old child will choose to use an operating system that has a funny, "naughty" name. /sarcasm

I'm looking forward to seeing its child distros: PooPooLinux, CaCaLinux and BoomBoomLinux. /moresarcasm

@nikkels

Ha Ha. I like that. An oxymoron for a comment.

I guess I really should have added TPFIC at the end of my opening comment.

Long ago, on an OS called Mac System 7, there was a nice little app for kids.

The "adult", it must be assumed, would configure this and run it, and the "kid", it must be assumed, would be given a short list of buttons with nice pictures that would launch only specifically defined applications.

Upon exit from that application, the simplified menu would again be presented, with a difficult to guess key sequence required to exit that back to the normal system interface.

Why not just do the same thing, like WindowLab, a window manager where the user's menu is predefined only?

Maybe the marketing dweeb who told me "You don't see the big picture" was right, I keep looking at these things and seeing how they've already been solved with existing tools on commodity hardware/software.

For fans of Mac System 7:

http://main.system7today.com/

I still run 7.6.1 on my Powerbook 1400 (circa 1995). I can even run X over SSH to a Linux/Unix box, though most apps don't work.

@Steven, I have a Powerbook 140 (1991), that runs a special version of Mac System 6.8. The harddrive is broken, but I still boots fine from a floppy. Normally its can only boot 7.0+, but I modified a Japanese version of System 6 (uses alot less space than 7) to work on it (lots of work resedit, changing strings and translating, moving system files). On the floppy (1,4mb) fits the whole OS, and a bunch of games like pacman and tetris. And then there is still 400kb free! Normally it can run Linux, but I need a harddrive for that, and they or not so easy to find :)

I think you misunderstood him. Doo-doo is a euphemism for poop in many places. He means it literally sounds like poop.

e.g. "uh-oh, he's in big doodoo now".

Hello All,

When I saw the name DouDouLinux , it made sense to me, because in the my country - Trinidad and Tobago- "doudou" or "doodoo" is used as a term of endearment, the way "darling" is used.

I do not know if this is what the name (of the distro) actually meant, but this is what I instinctively interpreted.

See here for some more definitions - http://www.websters-dictionary-online.org/Creole/doudou

regards,

John
