To be fair here, Oracle could have handled this thing a whole lot better. Sometime lawyers and marketing departments and careful measured responses are not the way to handle an issue. I suspect a lot of this could have been avoided if the movers and shakers at Oracle had simply gone to the community. But I also suspect the Corporate attitude that everything that happens is decided in the board room and propagates outward from there is so ingrained in the mentality of Ellison and co that the idea never came up, and the cry to do so can't be heard through the perception filters. |
