misleading information

Completely misleading. 26 times is a rough estimate of the download increase you got, I assume. This speed increase is completely dependent on the user's internet provider and the reasons why their download speed is what it is. There is nothing to say others will get anything like the speedup you got. There is also nothing to say its limited to 26x either. Its important not to release misleading information. I checked the script file and it only uses axel to download the updates in parallel (and usually from the same web host anyway!!). This in effect is overriding limits put in place by the repository admins. Also, downloading is only part of the process. This script does not increase installation speed since it just calls apt-get normally. Downloads aren't done in parallel by default because it abuses the web servers bandwidth. This could force the repository admins to restrict bandwidth on a per-IP basis, which will end up putting you back at square 1. |
