This article made me wonder, are there any Android phones out there that are really open? Where you can easily install a new Android OS (or a different Linux if you so wish)? My girlfriend has a G2 and I really like it. I'd love to have something like that but only if I can meddle with the OS. One of my primary reasons is that I want to change the software on it. |

Sorry this might not answer your question. Call me paranoid, I didn't want to use Android as an entire spying OS. I'm using the Nokia N900 with Maemo OS. You can install/dualboot an Android port called Nitdroid. I prefer Maemo which is basically Debian on ARM and I can do so much with it. You just need to add extra repositories. Here's my rambling post about the N900: http://lxer.com/module/forums/t/31118/ |

Me; also an N900 user/fan... there's sliced bread,... then there's the N900... |
