Encrypted LVM in the Ubuntu 10.10 installer

The Phoronix article mentions the lack of an encrypted LVM option in the Ubuntu graphical installer (though it remains part of the alternative installer). I am very much in favor of the graphical installer including encrypted LVM as an installation option. Over the past year I've run systems with fully encrypted LVM (Debian and Fedora) and encrypted /home (Ubuntu), and I prefer encrypted LVM. I don't detect a performance penalty, and it's easier to rsync out of a running encrypted LVM than it is out of a Ubuntu-style encrypted /home (I had to add a lot of exclusions to my rsync script, and besides being unsure about what to exclude and what not to exclude, I'd rather not have to deal with it). At least give users a choice. |

Yahoo, a shining example of a complete lack of innovation. |

Yahoo's innovations under the hood will most likely never be seen by the public, because they're using FreeBSD for their infrastructure. |

*facepalm* I walked right into that one. |

S'ok. I found out the same way you did. I'm just passing along the favor. |

Steven: You do have a choice I believe, since there's "cryptsetup", and you can change the init scripts to use it, isn't it? |

Also, az, even if they were using Linux, if they aren't distributing modified kernels, they'd be under no obligation to distribute the code. |
