An antivirus needed in android?!?! No. But maybe an anti-malware scanning app for downloaded apps might be appropriate... That or simply don't use any app not from a trusted source, and same the $30-$50 per year subscription..

I figured this was inevitable with Android, because of the nature of quick-n-dirty app developer culture... And the fact it uses Java so pervasively...

I am reminded of a quote that a member of a Linux user's group I belonged to a few years back said,... "Friends don't let their friends code in Java." I thought it a bit harsh at the time, but now?!?! Maybe not.

Disclaimer: I write *lots* of Java. But I'm not arguing, just pointing this out..

It's not the programming language. Any language that can read and write files, update settings, or whatever can be used for good or evil. If the Android devices used Python or Ruby there would be the same issues, just in a different language.
