...or maybe not. Here is a link from the article's page:
http://techrights.org/2010/08/03/gates-agenda-us-education/
about my favorite education leader. On the other hand, check out: http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/ This allows you to reformat a web page, removing clutter and allowing for some personal settings (I like turning links into footnotes). The instructions are fairly simple and it works well with Firefox 3.6.8 on Ubuntu 10.4 (hopefully this isn't a fluke). |

I did the Arc90 bookmark thing, and was so impressed by it, I demo'd it to my mother. Now she has a bookmark for it, too. |

Glad to hear it, Gus. I was fairly sure someone might have a use for it, or know someone who does. I have found quite a bit "out there", the vast majority of it for Windows, though. I work the assistive technology lab at a community college, so its not all about me. I do have Knoppix ADRIANE live CD, developed for blind or visually impaired persons. see http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-adriane/index-en.html and here http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/knoppix-adriane.html I would like very much to have the next two for Linux; Thunder screen reader http://www.screenreader.net/ and WebbIE web browser http://www.webbie.org.uk/ The Thunder download page includes webbIE and a USB setup that is just a data disk with Thunder and webbIE needing no special setup (and doesn't install anything on the hard drive, but works only under Windows :( |

The Arc90 thing is great. It seems the trend is to continually downsize the fonts on webpages. Ctrl-+ is not always the best. I can't wait to try it on my wife's netbook. |
